Hi all,

Past few days I been surfing through plus4 emucamp site. Some of the download links are for files on rulez.org ftp site, but I can never get through. After several seconds it always tells me the connection was reset.

Well the forum where I post the main infos is the german forum-64 where they have an extra part for the C16 +4 computers

but here is a link to the info with the pics, I don`t know if you have to be logged in to watch em...

www.forum64.de/wbb3/index.php?page=Thread&postID=230395#post230395

But I still have some bugs in my design, timing is very heavy problem with the C16+4 computers compared to the C64,

I also mailed with Swinkel about this problem...

Hello just an update, I made an external (Modul) Prototype, but I still have some Timing errors which have to be removed...

when this is done I will create a PCB Layout for everyone

and maybe order some PCB for you to solder yourself...

maybe I solder some of them... maybe ...

price would be around 20 Euro for all Parts I think, maybe even cheaper...

So now lets get the errors fix and then we see ...

Well, I finally got an email from the person who is selling the C16, but he said that he gets a black screen when powering it up. If I'm able to buy it for a reasonable price I may try to swap TED or CPU chips with my Plus/4 and hopefully get one working computer out of it. I know that C16s are rare, but a dead one isn't worth more than $5 US to me. I'll let everyone know what happens.

Yes, you are absolutely right about the voltage. I sent an email describing my issues to Ray Carlsen a couple of weeks ago and he was kind enough to reply. He told me that the voltage of the power supply will generally be more than 5 volts without a load. In addition, he said that the voltage shouldn't exceed 5.5 max when the computer is on or the higher voltage will start to damage chips. From what I've learned so far, excessive voltage from the power supply means that the voltage regulator in the PS is failing. Because the Commodore power supply is not repairable, the only option is to replace it with another that is working properly.

Unfortunately the C16 deal didn't work out (seller never responded to emails) , so I'm in the process of trying to find replacement TED and CPU chips. I'm sure that they'll be expensive but it doen't hurt to try. I guess I could just buy another Plus/4 on ebay but the inflated shipping charges aren't very appealing. Thanks for the info, and I'll post again if I get any news on the chips.

Hi patrick,

thanks for finding that. Since I posted I have to do another repair on me MPS803. The flexi cable from the board to the print head has a small tear across 2 connections, now I need to find either that cable or the print head and cable.

another minor note, if the +5v line is a big high say 5.2v on yours that isn't so bad, Often the power supplys float a bit high when not connected to the computer

Well I got mine used so had to make my own starter packs. First game was invaders I think. Another was bandits at zero which I think was pal, and I dont have a pal setup Another one of the firsts I've used was script/plus which was the 16 / plus/4 cart version of easy script. Makes me wish I'd had a 16 back in the 80's

That definitely makes sense. If I'm able to buy the C16 I mentioned I'll swap the TED and CPU with the ones from the Plus/4 and see what happens. Not only that, but after finding out how hot some of the chips on the circuit board get, I'm definitely going to be installing some heat sinks as well. As we all know, the ventilation in our Commodore equipment is less than ideal. Thanks again for the help.

A black screen normally means the Ted or the main CPU is faulty. From experience I find that Plus 4's which have had black screens has been caused by the main cpu having failed. Just to prove a point my current spares show 3 fully working Ted chips and no main Cpu's when I had the same of each at the start.
